Taoyuan magistrate touts aviation city project on mainland

Xiamen, China, May 16 (CNA) The magistrate of Taoyuan County in northern Taiwan, Eric Chu, held a presentation of the county's aerotropolis project Saturday in Xiamen, Fujien Province in southerrn China in the hope to attract Chinese investors or Taiwanese investors operating on the mainland to the massive plan.
Chu arrived here the previous day to attend a cross-Taiwan Strait forum in the capacity as a vice chairman of Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang.
Apparently, the politician did not set aside his duty as a county chief. His presentation of the aviation city plan at the hotel he stays in Xiamen attracted many media reporters from the two sides across Taiwan Strait.
Touting the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airports as the access to Taiwan, Chu said he is working in full strength to develop Taoyuan into introduce the county's aerotropolis project to the other participants and try to attract Chinese investment to the massive plan.
The project to be built around the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is one of the country's major development projects and is expected to attract NT$1 trillion (US$29.6 billion) in foreign investment. It is scheduled for completion by the end of 2020.
The cross-strait forum is a platform for exchanges between the private sectors of the two sides and is in addition to an annual forum between the KMT and the Communist Party of China. It is sponsored by the Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council and the Fujian provincial government.
The forum, along with various related activities, will take place in four Fujian cities -- Xiamen, Fuzhou, Quanzhou and Putian.
Participants from all walks of life will discuss exchanges between the two sides in various areas, including economy and trade, tourism, culture, education, folk arts, women and youth.
